Madewell Shopping Party

I've been a fan of Madewell for a long time and even blogged about visiting their store for the first time here. So recently when the local store contacted me to host a private shopping party for my friends, I was on board right away.  They set up cupcakes, a candy bar and some beverages for us to enjoy while we shopped.  I think I can safely assume that everyone left there that night with a sugar high and a bag of adorable Madewell merchandise.  Thanks to Madewell and all the amazing staff at the Old Orchard Store.  It was such a fun night!

Tribal Embellished Shorts

Aritzia White Shirt  |  Zara Stones Embroidered Shorts  |  Michael Antonio Nude Sandals (only $30!)
Celine Luggage Tote  |  Celine Cocoon Sunglasses  |  ASOS, Cartier, GlamRocks Rings

These tribal shorts are absolutely stunning in person.  The intricate detailing and beading is eye-catching and also very on trend.  I love a crisp white shirt and with bottoms this complicated (in the best possible way), it's  the perfect compliment.  I kept the shoe and bag neutral and clean.

Speaking of shoes, can we talk about these nude sandals for a second? I got them on Piperlime for $45 but most sizes are sold out.  But then, I found them at 6pm for only $30 and stocked in every size!! The classic, nude ankle strap heel that everyone is wearing these days but with a snake print to add a little sumthin' sumthin'.  With sandals this high and flimsy, the fit is important so you don't feel like your feet are sliding all over the place.  These fit snug and comfortably so you can strut with peace of mind.  You're welcome!

Fun Day with Ugg Australia

Recently, I was contacted by Ugg Australia to come visit their local store.  Living in Chicago, where we have our fair share of snowy days, I'm very familiar with the Ugg brand.  The boots are somewhat of a necessity for both adults and children trying to stay warm during the long winter months.

I will admit though, that I didn't know anything about their other styles and wasn't sure what to expect.  Spoiler alert: I was very pleasantly surprised!

Here I am at the store (909 N. Rush St Chicago) checking out some of their new Spring collection.  Can you believe these shoes are from Ugg Australia? Who knew? Aside from being cute and on trend, I will say that like the boots, the quality of the sandals were excellent.

Check out my HOT sandals? I was so torn between getting these sky high platforms or a more practical flat. In the end, the practical side of me won but I'm still thinking about those sandals!!!

Here we are with store managers, Tim and Sarah who were so helpful and fun. If it weren't for the second part of our day, I probably would have overstayed my welcome and just hung out there all day with them!

Ta Da! Check out our new kicks!

Next, they sent us to the zoo to enjoy the rest of the day with our new shoes.

Can I just say I'm kind of in love with my new Ugg Australia studded flats? Not only are they chic from the outside, but the inside is lined with that same sheepskin we know and love!

A big thank you to Ugg Australia for such a memorable day!

Dressed Up Crop Top Look

Mossimo Crop Top (similar)  |  Club Monaco Pencil Skirt (similar)  |  Mackage Leather Jacket (similar)
Chanel Handbag  |  L.A.M.B. Shoes (similar)  |  ASOS Rings  |  LUV AJ Crystal Cross Necklace

You know those moments when you just can't seem to write anything of value?  I'm having one of those moments...it could be the late hour or that second glass of wine but whatever the case, I'm at a loss for words so I'll keep this short and sweet.

I wanted to do a sexy, sleek look for the last outfit featuring the crop top.  I kept everything very black and minimal.  That is all.

Here is the 3 day summary of looks using the same crop top.  Through this experiment, I realized that a bustier crop top can very well become an essential staple to one's closet.  An epiphany for sure.

Matchy Matchy Crop Top Look

Target Crop Top (similar)  |  Mossimo Skirt  |  Silence & Noise Knit Moto Vest (only $19!)
LUV AJ Crystal Cross Necklace  |  Madewell Sandals (similar)  |  Celine Luggage Tote  |  Cartier watch

I normally hate anything matchy matchy but this season, I have to admit I'm kinda into it.  It only works if it's very obviously, deliberately matching like a printed top with the matching pants or printed blazer with matching shorts.  Speaking of which, I've been on the hunt for an affordable printed short suit like this one by Juicy Couture.  If you have seen one, help a sister out.

For the second look with this crop top, I paired it with the matching high waisted skirt.  I added my knit moto vest to break it up a bit and also, if we're being candid, to hide the jelly roll that was oozing out of my midsection.  I guess I should've done some planks and passed on the buffalo wings last week when I was taking these pictures.  A special shoutout this week to my trusty moto vest.  Job well done.

Casual Crop Top Look

Target Crop Top (similar)  |  Paper Crown High Waisted Shorts (similar)  |  Luv AJ Crystal Cross Necklace

Here is my first look using the aformentioned crop top.  I paired it with high waisted shorts, flat sandals and a backpack from over 10 years ago!  Like I said, there is only be a tiny sliver of skin, if that.  If I had my pre-baby bod or worked out ever, perhaps I would have revealed another inch of skin (I know, so racy of me!) but ah well, those days are gone and that is A-okay by me. The moral of the story is, don't be afraid of the crop top.  You can rock it without revealing much or any skin!

Bustier Crop Top

Target Mossimo Crop Top
I purchased mine in store 2-3 months ago but it looks like it's sold out online.  Check your local Target clearance section.  That's where I found the matching skirt last week!

This week, we'll be talking about bustier crop tops.  Normally, I would shy away from something this revealing but I was at Target a few months ago and the print on this top caught my eye.  In the cart it went with some random nail polish, salt & vinegar potato chips and some new plates for the girls.  Oh just a typical trip to Target, filling my cart with unnecessary things.

So this week, I wanted to share with you 3 different looks using the same top.  The key to wearing a crop top for me is to pair it with something very high waisted so you only reveal a tiny sliver of skin.  I hope you'll follow along this week as we go through the various outfits.

Floral Romper Look

Rag & Bone Newbury Boots  |  Celine Luggage Tote  |  Asos Thick Gold Bands

I love a floral romper for Spring/Summer but sometimes, they can come off looking a little juvenile.  The muted color palette, silky fabric, and longer, looser hemline on this one make it more appropriate for mature audiences.

I paired it with my favorite booties (Rag & Bone Newbury Boots), a masculine jacket and a leather cap to toughen up the look.  I topped the whole thing off with my LUV AJ Crystal Cross Necklace, which I've been wearing nonstop.  Somehow, it goes with everything I wear!

Just Us Girls

On D: Gap Kids dress  |  Toms Classic Tiny Slip On Shoes

How cute is this back??

I'm kind of obsessed with PRSPR, an adorable new childrens' clothing line.  Their clothes are so whimsical and fun and really unlike anything I've seen on the market in this price range.  So, when they reached out to me, wanting to send my girls some clothing, I was thrilled!

I chose the dress for A and the jumpsuit for D.  But, I must have ordered the wrong size because the jumpsuit ended up fitting A too! Anyway, such charming clothes and at a very fair price. Check PRSPR clothing out!

Thank you to PRSPR!!

Going Tribal

T by Alexander Wang t-shirt  |  Zara tribal skirt  |  Rag & Bone/Target cardigan

I love the vibrant colors, textures and patterns on this bold skirt.  I kept the rest of the look pretty neutral with a casual tee, tan sandals and a navy bag.  The weather has been beautiful here in Chicago but it can still get chilly when you're in the shade.  So, I added this textured boyfriend cardigan to complete the look.

Other styling ideas: For daytime, a worn in denim jacket or chambray shirt could easily top this look as well.  For evening, I would pair it with a leather moto jacket (this Mackage version currently 33% off!!) or a white blazer.

Dressy Overalls

TopShop Overalls  |  Urban Outfitters Blouse  |  Schutz Pumps  |  Chanel Handbag  |  ebay Cap

When I saw that overalls were making a comeback, I definitely hesitated at first but in the end, I'm glad I took the plunge.  These overalls from Zara are actually a great fit and fit is absolutely essential with this trend.

Today's overalls are slimmer and sleeker than their counterparts from the 90's, so I wanted to try dressing them up with a silk blouse, pointy toed pumps and a classic handbag.  One of the perks of having a blog is that it pushes me to take more risks with my personal style and pairing these items together definitely was a little out there for me.  But really, it's just clothing and if you can't have fun with it, then why bother, right?

Texture Games

Forever21 Sweater  |  7 For All Mankind Snakeskin Pants  |  J.Crew Necklace (similar)
Phillip Lim Sandals (similar)  |  Balenciaga Bag  |  Giles & Brother cuff

Pairing textured snakeskin pants with a textured sweater was a bit of a risk but I made it work by sticking to a monochromatic grey color scheme.  I'm kind of loving how the different textures are playing off each other and adding a lot of interest to an otherwise simple look.  I added my go-to nude sandals and finally a navy handbag for just the tiniest bit of color.  Now, go find some texture to play with!
