Maternity and the Maxidress

Dress: American Eagle Outfitters  |  Shirt: J.Crew  |  Bag: Goyard  |  Sunnies: Rayban

I squeezed into this non-maternity, non-stretch maxi dress for a kiddie backyard pool party a couple of weeks ago. I think if I tried to wear it now, there's a decent likelihood of seams ripping. Not my idea of a good time. Up to this point, I've been trying to incorporate as much of my non-maternity clothes into the mix but I think at 25 weeks, those days are gone.

In other news, I've been contemplating how to transform A's bedroom to accommodate another little girl. We absolutely love our neighborhood (Bucktown in Chicago) and love our condo (see pics here) so we decided to stay put for at least a little while longer. The only issue is having the girls share a room when they have different sleep schedules and whatnot. Do any of you have experiences sleeping 2 young children in the same room? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

We live in a loft and our kids (3 1/2 yr old and 1 yr old) share rooms. Luckily my oldest is a great sleeper so it worked out well. For the first three months, my youngest slept in a pack n play in our bedroom.

Yay! stay in the city as long as you can please! We want to stay in the city with kids too. =)

Hi, you are absolutely glowing. Makes me want to get pregnant again (well, almost). We used to live in a two bedroom townhouse condo so the baby shared a room with me while my husband moved in with my older son. Not the best arrangement but it worked for us for almost a year. Thanks for the post :)

First of all you look beautiful! When I had my dd my husband put her bed in our hallway close to our room. She slept like that for about a year because she was a nurse baby. I didn't want to wake her brother when she would wake up for a feeding.

You look beautiful!

My sister lived in a smaller house when she became pregnant with her second daughter and slept with her, while my brother-in-law stayed in another room with my older niece. They did this for about 8 months - just enough to save for something bigger, and before everyone went crazy with the lack of room.

Cute outfit! I really like the tied button-down shirt look. I've seen Kendi of KendiEveryday do that and some other fashion bloggers too. It works really well w/ a baby bump. :)

Have been lurking for awhile. Love your blog! I woke this morning thinking about how great it's worked having my 3.5 year boy and 9 mo girl room sharing. Didn't do it until Ev slept thru the night (6 mos) so that I wasn't stumbling through the house. She slept in a pack n play in our bedroom. Now, if my 9mo old wakes and cries (teething) 3.5 year old can sleep through.... No prob!

You are LOVELY! I really adore that dress on you, especially with the crisp white top.

I only have one child, so I can't offer any advice!

You look super-duper cute in that maxi dress - love how it coordinates with your goyard bag.

adorbs!!!! don't ever leave the city! we moved to the 'burbs and regret not raising kids in the Chi alllll the time! our 3 girls share a room...the oldest doesn't nap, the middle naps in the baby's crib and baby naps in our room in a pack 'n' play. as for bed, they all go in at the same time and work.it.out! sometimes it takes a little longer for them to settle, but I wouldn't change it for anything! they love sharing and it reminds me of my own sisters and myself growing up! love.

That dress looks amazing on you..fits you like a glove! How are you already 24 weeks??

Joanne Choi (July 21, 2011 at 5:39 PM)

slept my two girls together once the younger was 10 weeks old. It was fine. They liked it. It seemed to make the older sleep more calmly and the younger never had much difficulty sleeping at all. I did go in at around 11 to feed the younger one, but it was without any undue problem or stress. Very easy. Sometimes one would wake up crying but rarely did it wake up the other. When both did wake up it was a simple matter of walking into the same room and comforting both of them with shusshes.

You look adorable and I love how you've styled the dress. Looked at your blog, I love how your pulling together your looks and accessories and love that you use renttherunway. Been a member but never have used them.

Thank so much for your kind comment! I live in Bucktown/Wicker Park too! We should meet up.

I don't have experience with bunking up the kiddos, but I do have experience with maternity fashion and I LOVE THIS LOOK! What a great dress and the tied up shirt is perfection. You look fantastic!

Fashion and Number (July 26, 2011 at 4:17 PM)

Hey you look so pretty with the dress. I always feel like pregnant ladies are attractive. for some reasons. I am not married and don't have kids yet but I gotta tell you that I used to sleep with my younger sis in the same bedroom. It was fun though. That's how our sisterhood was formed. ;)

Love, Fashionandnumber

foxes & flamingos (August 22, 2011 at 12:14 PM)

Hey! Congrats on #2- I've been a little MIA lately. I guess I had no idea you were in bucktown! We moved from there (Damen & Armitage) back in 2009. I am missing city life a little more lately than when we first moved... good luck merging the girls in together. I know so many moms that did it. Mix gender and same gender. You will be great I promise! Check out Rosie Pope for some ideas. They did a same gender room make-over last season on her show Pregnant in heels that was to cute for words.

This post is well written and informative. I don't comment often, but it doesn't cost me anything to say it when it’s true. Cheers.

In my opinion maternity maxi dresses are comfortable for pregnant women. Maternity maxi dresses are great for combining style and comfort as well as looking ultra glamorous.
