What do you do all day??

As a stay at home mom, I get asked "So..what do you do all day?" a lot. So, here's a peek into our daily life.
Most mornings are filled up with some class or another. Here we are at art.
Here she is at soccer. She also does gymnastics and was in dance in the fall.

After classes in the AM, we go home for lunch and a nap. Then, we spend the afternoon either running errands (grocery shopping shown here) or...

going to an indoor playground (since it's too cold to go to the park) or...

cooking dinner with mommy or...

hanging with pals at a playdate.

Luckily, I know a good number of stay at home moms and have a few good girlfriends (w/o kids) that are willing and able to hang out with us. I end up seeing a friend at least 4 out of 5 days, whether it's a playdate or lunch with my girlfriends and I'm soo thankful for them! These friendships are key to me enjoying (LOVING) being a stay at home mom.

So, if you're a stay at home mom, what do you do all day??

Pretty much the same stuff. Play dates, errands, lunch with friends, naps, etc... I need to get her in some classes. We did gymnastics for a while but as she hit the terrible 2's {and I got preggo} we called it a day as it was too much for this momma right then.

What a full life you and little A lead :) It must be tiring to be that social!

style fare: Before I had A, when I would have summers off from school, I would be ALOT less social and could spend days just sitting around the house or running errands by myself. But, once I had A, I really need and crave adult interaction since I'm just with her most of the time.

I'm not a stay at home mum, but I am a student, I get derided a lot because students are lazy and slovenly and only drink beer and eat pot noodles (yuck and yuck). So now when people point out how lazy I am I point out that today I did classes for two hours, then library for two hours making notes for my dissertation, I bought food for tonight and I'm making a sausage casserole from scratch, I do crafting so I plan to knit, sew and plus things like washing up and laundry. Then I will go over my notes in the evening and socialise with my friends.

Then I might get to sleep some time.

Why do people feel the need to make comments like that?

I desperately wish I could be a SAHM. Maybe I'll meet someone rich and kind. :)

So my days consist of working and missing my girl all day!

These are great pictures, it looks like you have a lot of fun together!

Hi Jiye, what are the recommendations or places for classes that I can look into for my 1.5 yo? We live in the Chicagoland also. I totally agree on the social interactions that you crave for while being a stay-at-home. It's prob. just too boring to be facing our little one all day long :P!

That's great that you have the opportunity to be a SAHM and that A is participating in all these activities!

It's so great that you're able to still spend a lot of time with your friends...one part I really miss about working are my lovely long lunches - we'd eat yummy food and catch up.

What about cleaning? When do you clean with all that socializing? lol... I could never find enough time to do that.
My days consist of:
1.) Breakfast then gym
2.) Coming home and playing with my little one
3.) eating lunch together
4.) giving her a nap
5.) cleaning during her nap
6.) waking her up and having a snack
7.) doing more chores together (she loves to help!)
8.) Preparing for daddy to get home: Making sure house is super clean, brush hair, start dinner, check my mood (men do NOT want to hear a nagging, grumpy wife first thing when they get home from a hard working day)
...and the rest of the day is family time, do dishes, watch a little TV, reading, etc.
I love being a SAHM mom! :)

Sharon: What part of Chicagoland do you live in? I can only speak for the city since that's where I live. Although I think the suburbs have more variety and more affordable activities for kids.

So, I start off by looking at park district classes since they are dirt cheap. If I get into some good classes there (it's hard to get in to the good classes in the city), I plan the rest of her classes around that.

I subscribe to every groupon, mamapedia, kbdeals, mamaloot coupon sites out there. They always have great coupons for classes. I use those to try out classes and if there's a place I love, I continue to go there.

I also get a lot of recommendations from friends and there's also good old google if nothing else works.

Email me if you have any other questions!!

Anonymous: Well, if you have a toddler, you should know that most classes run only 30-45 minutes. So, even if we have a class in the morning, it still leaves hours before and after for us to do chores around the house! A loves helping too! Her favorite is loading the washing machine! Admittedly though, I'm not one to stress myself out if the house isn't super clean before hubbie gets home!

Pauline: I didn't know you were a SAHM! How are you enjoying it?? How's dohl planning btw??

I'm sure that hanging out with girlfriends is a huge part of it--that's what would keep me sane if I had a little one, I think :)

i wish i could stay at home too! i'm sure lil A loves being with mommy and how lucky is she that mommy keeps her entertained!

Just the run of the mill things like visiting different parks/playground, the library, reading books at bookstore, arts and crafts stuff at home. I wish we could afford classes for my 7 and 4 yr old. Weekends are family/Daddy time where kids get to go have fun. Or meetup with our friends & their lil' ones. Or if Grandma wants to take the kids, then it's a bit of a break for me.
